ARC giveaway and october's recommended translation
Hello again,
Tor is giving away ten Advanced Reader Copies of BUT NOT TOO BOLD on Instagram, so if you want one, make sure to participate here! Unfortunately, it’s just for US/Canada residents (mas quando as minhas cópias chegarem, posso fazer um para brasileiros!). Oh, and there’s also a starred Publishers Weekly review out, if you’re curious about the book.
As always, please donate to Operation Olive Branch and to Sudan Funds; if you want to do something and don’t know where to start, both links can help you find campaigns to aid victims of genocide and displacement.
See you next month,
Hache 🕷️
The Vegetarian 🇰🇷 채식주의자
(Han Kang, 2007, trans. Deborah Smith)
Yeong-hye, a seemingly unremarkable woman, stops eating meat after a visceral, violent dream. Her husband is aghast; not only she refuses to interact with meat in any way, but this wife he never really bothered to know seems more of a stranger every day. When her family decides to intervene, the situation spirals out of everyone’s control.
The Vegetarian is divided in three strange and feverish acts, each in a different point of view of those around Yeong-hye, each of them unable to understand her. I read it a few years ago and it never really left my mind, and I doubt it will leave yours.
